Packaging That Worked Harder
Transforming builder packaging into a cost-saving, customer-facing marketing tool.
After an initial supplier quoted more than $27 per box, I researched alternative vendors. I developed a branded packaging solution that brought production costs under $6 per box while turning the shipping experience into a customer-facing brand touchpoint.

Brand Touchpoint
The residential illustration was intentionally kept neutral and nondescript to avoid resembling a specific builder’s home model, floor plan, or competitor property. The goal was to suggest curb appeal and homeownership while keeping the packaging broadly usable across builder relationships.
Designing for Builder Neutrality
Design considerations
Neutral one-line home illustration designed to avoid builder-specific associations.
Adapted residential line drawings into a repeatable pattern showcasing multiple home styles.
Blank interior lid reserved for future inserts, business cards, or campaign-specific materials.
Warm brand-aligned neutrals were chosen to hide dirt, grime, and handling marks during shipping.
Side-panel benefit icons highlighted Made in the USA, recycled aluminum, rust-free construction, Alumi-Shield, and premium craftsmanship.
Triangle box
The triangle box extended the packaging system for vertical sign formats while maintaining the same brand language as the rectangle box. To determine the best artwork placement, I tested how people naturally opened a blank prototype and documented the results. This helped ensure the graphics appeared in the intended orientation during the first interaction.
